US ambassador to South Korea injured by attacker

This guy attacked our ambassador because he believes that we stand in the way of a united Korea. Iirc, he was the same asshole who attacked the Japanese ambassador to South Korea. Why? You guessed it, he believes Japan stood in the way of a united Korea.

US ambassador to South Korea Mark Lippert has been injured by an attacker in Seoul, officials say.

The attack happened as Mr Lippert, 42, was about to attend a breakfast meeting in the capital.

Pictures later emerged, showing the envoy bleeding from his face and left hand. He was cut by a razor blade.

Mr Lippert was taken to hospital. The attacker - believed to be a 55-year-old man - was subdued by security officers and arrested.

Mr Lippert's injuries were not life-threatening, the US State Department said.

'Anti-war slogan'
The attack happened at about 07:40 (22:40 GMT Wednesday), as the ambassador was entering a lecture hall in central Seoul, South Koran police were quoted as saying by the Yonhap news agency.

The assailant reportedly shouted "South and North Korea should be reunified!" before lashing out at the envoy.

The attacker also expressed his opposition to annual military exercises held jointly by South Korea and the US, which are currently under way.

North Korea has described the exercises - which involve more than 200,000 troops - as a rehearsal for an invasion and has vowed retaliation.

However, there is no evidence that the attacker was an agent of North Korea, the BBC's Stephen Evans in Seoul reports.

Many South Koreans believe that the American military presence prevents unification of the two Koreas, our correspondent adds.

The assailant had previously thrown concrete at the Japanese ambassador to South Korea. He also has a record of militant Korean nationalistic activism.

US President Barack Obama later called Mr Lippert to wish him "the very best for a speedy recovery", US National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan said.

Meanwhile, the US state department said: "We strongly condemn this act of violence."

Mr Lippert - a former US assistant secretary of defence - was appointed ambassador to South Korea in 2014.

His wife gave birth in the country, and the couple gave their son a Korean middle name, according to the Associated Press news agency.

Time for the U.S to pull all of its troops out of puppet Korea and to allow Korea to be united with government of the people.

Fixed that for you.

Only an evil person or an idiot wants to expand the pool of people being starved to death, dude. Although granted, the two are not mutually exclusive.

North Korea should officially surrender to South Korea, it's leadership step down, disband it's army, and allow the country to reunite.

This guy needs to be off the streets for good. Not sure how prison sentences work in Korea, but they better throw the book at him.

Also - what's with his security. Outside of the Middle East and Russia, I'd imagine that the US ambassador to Korea should have better protection than most, considering there's a hostile, unpredictable country next door.

Please explain how NK is a people's government? 😕
It's in the name.

'Democratic People's Republic of Korea'

See both democratic and of the people.

It says, must be true.

Its like 'People's Republic of China' only more democratic.

:hmm:

lol North Korean democracy. You can choose to not vote for Dear Leader, and you will be sent to a gulag where you will slowly starve to death. Or you can vote for Dear Leader, and you will be allowed to slowly starve to death in the comfort of your own hut. For millions of North Koreans there is no third choice.

I can't imagine living with the evil required to want that spread to even a single person more.

He should have gone to prison for attacking the Japanese ambassador but got a suspended jail term instead. Wtf did they think he was going to do next? Idiots.

Basically the harder a country's name tries to convince you it's a good place to live the more horrifying it will be in real life.

A dictatorship is not a people's government. The dictator/his goons should be tried and put in prison for their human rights violations.

Oh no, with the sadistic shit that Kim and his stupid 'generals' have done to their own people, the only justice is found either on the gallows, guillotine, or have them drawn and quartered - Braveheart style. Then again making a special gulag and starving them to death might be a better solution. Kim would take the longest to expire though. ()🙂

lol That would be a good rule of thumb.

"Oh look, we're entering the Democratic Free People's Republic of-"

"AGGH! TURN AROUND!"

Western Propaganda is alive and well here. Korea isn't some crap hole, it is thriving prosperous nation. Did you know Korea has an open border with Russia, any Koreans who wants to leave is free to do so. There is a patrolled border with China, but that is to prevent people from flooding into prosperous Korea.
