You wouldn't be laughing if you were on that plane.

thank god I am not then, huh...

looks like the plane is submerged now...

Motion for ban. It could just as easily been you, or someone you know, on that plane. I bet everyone of the passengers on the plane thought they were going to die. And you think it's funny?

I find it funny that a flock of birds could do this, not the fact that people could/did die.

This is horrible.

Actually, it seems it's not all that bad. Plane's upright, floating, lots of ships nearby. It's probably the best possible plane crash you could imagine.

Not really. 43 degree waters = hypothermia within minutes. And outside air temps are below 20

It actually doesn't mean Hypothermia in minutes, if they are in life jackets/preservers they will survive for quite some time.

The lifejacket isnt a wetsuit. Wouldnt the water still consume the peoples body?

bystander effect...same thing happens in the US too. Not just in other countries.

The pilot deserves a medal for his landing. That plane doesn't appear to be broken-up at all and has remained afloat for a VERY long time.

The cold water will weigh them down, and reduce motor function, but death from hypothermia is actually quite a bit longer then people think. If you lack a life preserver, you have roughly 5-10 minutes before your in trouble in you don't have something to keep your head above water.

Edit: that is if you get over the first shock of the cold water.

I don't understand what's funny. Any debris that enters the engine has the potential to cause damage.

great job by him but you'd have to think many many pilots would have done the same. The difficulty of such a landing though - I can't say anything about that.

having been on 9 different flights in the past month, 2 being 5000+ miles, I am glad it never happened to me, and I feel bad for those people that it did happen to.

BUT, I have never heard of a flock of birds doing this, and I found it funny. NOT the fact that people may have/did die.

Those birds must have blew up on impact...I see why planes cruise at such a high altitude.

A medal? For doing his job? They are trained in what to do in emergency situations. He deserves an atta boy for a job well done, but at the end of the day he is just doing his job.

If I saved a server from crashing at work last week by detecting a HD that was going bad.. i wouldnt get so much as a thank you let alone a medal!

I don't understand him either.

Those fan blades have a LOT of momentum and when something hits one mass amounts of energy are released and it's very easy to damage the blade which then breaks up and damages other fan blades and then eventually they begin to get sucked into the internals and the engine explodes. All commercial jet engines are built to withstand that kind of impact and the engine should fail without damaging the rest of the plane which looks to be what happened.

Go to youtube and watch some of the bird ingestion tests run on commercial airliner engines, some spectacular failures.

There's a reason the Navy combs the deck of a carrier so often.

If a single HD would take out a server, you're doing it wrong.

Do a search for Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961 (I believe, that's from off the top of my head). It's a fairly famous video of another water landing that was not successful.

I am not in aviation, so I had not heard of this, nor did I think it was a common event. I thought the force of the engine would propel the bird/s around the engine or the plane...like a...force field I guess...because of the speed it's going at.

I believe at the time of that flight / crash the plane was under control of terrorists.
