My mom was supposed to fly into Indianapolis today from Houston via US Airways. Of course, US Airways is always routed through one of their hubs (Charlotte or Pittsburgh) so she left this morning on a flight from Houston to Charlotte. I was to pick her up in Indianapolis at 1:00pm (IN time) and drive back to West Lafayette. As I am merging on to 65 to get to Indy, I get a call from my mom saying that her flight to Indy was cancelled. Now she has to stand in line of about 200 people to figure out how to get here. Furthermore, my dad being Chairman Preferred (Frequent Flyer top program) called US Airways and they informed him that she was booked for another flight to LaGuardia then on to Indianapolis.

Man this throughs off everything.

We generally always fly Continental, but prices were so high that my dad used frequent flyer miles for US Airways. His company uses US Airways so he has millions of miles to spare.

Last time I flew Delta they delayed my flight 3times, then cancelled it. Then they finally got us a flight, then it was delayed.

I got to my destination 14 hours later:|

I hate US Airways, too. They cancelled their flights due to weather, and I was stuck in Boston homeless... they didn't come me room/food/flight. Stingy-ass mvtherfvckers. Never again.

They gave my mom $7.50 for her situation so she could eat lunch. $7.50 sure does buy a lot of food at an airport.

#1 banking city in the nation = NYC
#2 banking city in the nation = Charlotte

Direct flights between NYC and Charlotte? ONE AIRLINE ONLY!!! :| :| :|

Avg. cost of flight? $400-$700!!!!

Toronto, Montreal, San Juan, Aruba, most of the Caribbean etc. are all cheaper (on the same airline...)

Bahstages...

Actually lunch at CLT airport isn't so bad. Now if she's Chairman Preferred, they should have given her free food/drinks at the USAirways club.

$7.50. Wow. How generous of them. Last time I flew US Scareways (about a year ago) from Indy to DC, my flight out of Indy was going to be delayed 2 hours because of mechanical problems (something stupid, like a pressure gauge, but they had to FLY IN the parts from another airport even though I think they have a maintenance facility at Indy).

Because of the delay I was going to miss my connection in Pittsburg, so I had to book on a later flight - 5 hours later - ended up getting to Baltimore around midnight, plus had to drive another hour or so to my hotel...and be at a meeting at 8:00 the next morning...:frown:

They gave me a whole $5.00. Almost enough to buy a Coke at the airport.

Personally I like American the best - never had a delay, and their planes have a little more room (a big plus for us tall people!)

For the future, you are better off calling when your flight is cancelled rather than standing in a line with all the other angry people.

Yes, its especially fun when the US Airways pilot announces that the plane "mechanical problems" after you've already boarded the flight that lasts for three hours before the plane finally leaves. Its doubley fun when you have an international connection that you just missed at the next airport because of their incompetance.

Depends. Sometimes all they do over the phone is get your address and send you travel vouchers through the mail. (I'm thinking of inconvenience reimbursement) When you can actually talk to someone, you can explain to them that their airfare prices are way too high to begin with and get more out of them.

I personally have found that it's best to talk to someone you can smack too. ;)

many hours later...
my flight had two legs: dc to charlotte, and charlotte to los angeles. the charlotte to los angeles flight was delayed more than 3 hours because, on the way into charlotte, a bird got sucked into an engine and they were trying to figure out if it was safe or what needed to be done. oh well, at least they showed bend it like beckham

Yeah, I was one of the few smart people - got on the phone to AMEX (travel agent) the minute they announced the delay...
