Ok, I am a newb and am having trouble with my new t-bird. I only have experience with slot style chips. I installed my first T-bird and it ran great for a week. Then I took it off to replace the fan that was on the thermalright sk-6 with a heaftier one. While doing so I kind of jabbed the mobo with a dull knife, I didnt notice any scratches with a magnifying glass. Ok, so I put the heatsink on gingerly, moved it around a little and turned it on. The heatsink got hot and I smelled metal getting heated so I turned her off. The chip smelled burned and wouldnt post, yay. I ordered a new one, BTW ehyja stepping?, and put her in and turned her on. The heatsink got hot as hell and the capacitors around the chip, barrel looking ones, were all hot to the touch. The mobo led's are reading fine, it powers alll of the components up, is there a possibility that the mobo is shorting the chip out in any way? The fans blowing down, I even tried a copper shim on her the second time. Any help would be appreciated, maybe any tests to be done with say a voltage meter or whatnot?
