Guys

Anyone know of a default password for this. It's a phoenix BIOS and the user has set a password, but doesn't know what it is :( Any default passwords out there? (else it's an expensive job for Gateway to do...they charge heaps for it :()

Thanks

Most BIOS doesn't have default passwords. You're better off seeing if there's a jumper somewhere. I don't know though, since it's a laptop. See if you can find an online manual on the website.

U cant reset the bios without breaking it open and messing it up.

Use a bios hacker to hack the password out.

isnt there a battery that u just unplug for like....a day or so? I thought back in the day...if u ever forgot your pw...u could open up the case, and yank the battery off the mobo and it'll reset.

You can try this site, it says- phoenix -should work as a backdoor password.
Here

Another possibility is a bios flash?????

GENERIC/pirate: BIOS; setup; cmos.

AWARD BIOS: 589589, PINT, pint, AWARD_SW, j262, condo, j322, faada, AWARD_PW, GO, go, shift+s y x z.

AMI BIOS: AMI, AMI_SW, MI!SW/, AMI?SW/

I dont know the ones for Phoenix...good luck, you can take out the internal battery and it will reset the cmos...

Flash the BIOS, it might forget the password.

And yes, there IS a CMOS battery in most laptops that you can simply unplug and plug back in. All you have to do is open the laptop's cover. The battery looks like a big round metal pill :)

Ok, I don't work in the laptop division, but I'll give you some things to try.

Try gw2k.

If that doesn't work, I'll ask someone at work tomorrow. :)

Make sure you have the real owner of the laptop.

Yes people forget passwords, but they also steal laptops from the airport

I'vew got a similar problem with my Thinkpad 765L. I set a password on it when I took to to school for finals week, and now it wont let me take it off. Not a huge PITA, but it's there. Gotta re-enter it every time I come out of standby or boot up.
