I had Win NT Enterprise Server on a machine that had 7 SCSI hard drives in an Raid 5 array using Windows NT software Raid options.

My question for you guys is if I try to load Win2k Server, will this wipe out my Raid Partitions and all of my data? The O/S itself is on a separate partition, but part of that drive is used as a piece of the Raid array.

Any advice is welcome!

Text mode setup won't install to a software RAID set.

You *can* recover this data from the software RAID set.

I highly encourage you to call Microsoft tech support. It will be well worth your $245. Unless you regularly fiddle with ftedit and dskprobe, let the experts lead you through the recovery.

Also, if you install to a non-Raid drive, you can install the OS but it won't recognize the RAID set. Again, that can be rectified if you know how to use ftedit. Again, I suggest calling support.

the OS is not installed onto a RAID partition. The OS is on the same physical hard drive as one of the RAID partitions, but logically they are separated.

its a server, so you should have nightly backups anyway, just wipe it and restore the backups.

alternatively I would get NT back up and running properly and THEN worry about moving to win2k.
you didn't mention this servers role, PDC?, DNS?, WINS?, SQL?, EXCHANGE?

Then you can reinstall to that partition, but will still need to use ftedit to allow the new OS to see the old RAID set.
