so the long and short of it..

i work at car toys (car audio/video and cell phone stuff) and just recently we started carrying at&t netbook computers. lord knows why we carry it, but that's not the point. point is, the lenovo unit is on a hibernation schedule that we can't seem to disable. every time it hibernates, it resumes to the password prompt which nobody knows. (yay communication?) the only workaround is a reboot, which makes potential customers irritated.. this of course leads to unhappy managers, which we all know is never good. so then we get "the email"

the email describes how to go into powercfg setting via cmd prompt to change to always on.. well, their plan doesn't work. every time we try, we get a permissions error. i managed to get myself into control panel thru cmd and discovered that we are logged in as a limited access user account. unfortunately, the admin account is invisible on the main user page, so we can't get into it to fix this.

so no admin access = unable to fix hibernate issue = pissed off managers who now think we're incompetant because we can't follow "a simple set of instructions"

can one of you computer gurus please lend a hand here? i don't neccessarily need to hack into the admin account, but i HAVE to get rid of this damn power scheme.

3 delicious plates of chocolate chip e-cookies to anyone that can get our managers out of our arses on this.

tia guys/gals =]

Start > Run
Type: regedit
Go to HKCU\Control Panel\PowerCfg
Modify the CurrentPowerPolicy key to match the power policy you want.

holy cow.. the first regedit that didn't give me an access error! change stayed, now it's just a waiting game to see if she kicks back off again.. but i'm guessing it won't.

you now have 2 adoring fans at car toys.. haha

e-cookies and chocolate milk for you =]

That's one for the tool box.

Here's another favorite of mine. It requires you to have administrative rights on the remote machine. Say you need to remote desktop into a machine but the machine isn't configured to allow RDP connections yet. Instead of walking over and logging in to enable RDP, you can do it via remote registry modification:

Start > Run
Type: regedit
File > Connect Network Registry
Connect to the remote computer's registry
Navigate to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server
Modify fDenyTSConnections key to 0
