Hey guys-

I'm considering getting a Dual 1 Ghz Pentium 3 system with 512 Mhz of PC133 SDRAM from Red Dawn
In the hot deal forum I found that I can get a Dell P4 1.5 Ghz with 256 MB of PC600 RDRAM for around $1600 shipped.

How much of a difference in performance am I gonna see between the two?
If the dualie is about $400 more, is it worth the price difference?

I'll be running Win 2k and I use photoshop alot.

I need to know quick because they only allow you to keep the dell system in the shopping cart for 15 minutes and they are going fast.

What are you going to be using it for??

The dually won't be much, if any, faster unless you run NT or Win2k as well as run apps that can use multi-processor.

If it's just for gaming, get the P4.

Win2k and Photoshop work?

I'd go with the dual P3 1ghz + 512mb PC133 in a heartbeat!

If you want a honest and quick answer: D O N O T B U Y I T !!!!!!
Buy a Dell if you want Hell !!!!

Stick to 'A'-brand manufacturers components and ofcourse pay little more, but you will
have more power, more flexibility and more quality for your buck.

Dual-CPU system looks like fun but normally only under NT and with the right software
you will have more power gain. Otherwise do not do it.

Thanks for the advice guys

Innoka- actually, it came with quite a bit of other stuff besides just the P4

P4 1.5Ghz
256MB PC600 RDRAM
60 Gig 7200RPM HD
Nvidia Geforce 2 Ultra GTS 64 MB DDR
12x DVD-ROM
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
3com 56K V.90
Integrated 10/100 Network
MS Keyboard/Mouse
PCI Firewire Card
Windows ME
Black and Silver Case

From everything that I've seen and read before there was no way in hell I was ever gonna get a P4 but it sure
looked pretty good to me for $1650 shipped, but I didn't get it. Thanks for all that responded.

If you want a powerful top-quality rig. Check out this site:

Outside Loop

They use all top quality parts at an excellent price.
I got a rig and some other stuff from them and never had a problem. They are very helpful too.

I realize that the deal is already done...

Right this moment, the dual P3's would probably be faster for you. However, if photoshop gets optimized for the P4, then it'll probably smoke the P3's.

FWIW.

I'd personally go dual P3... the P4 is like GeForce3 - you'll wait forever for any optimised applications to come out for it.

With P600 ram, the P4 takes a nice 25% hit in performance. It is very dependent on RAMBUS,a nd PC800 is what it really needs. Go with the dual P3.
