My friend asked me to remove the BIOS password that his father put to prevent him from playing games.
So I removed his mobo's battery and the password dissappeared. But now his P4 2.66GHz reports as a P4 1.06 GHz
I couldn't find the FSB speed setting. I doubt that is the problem or else it will report as a 2GHz processor.
The BIOS and Windows XP now show it as a 1.06GHz processor.
Checked the RAM and set it as 266MHz but the problem still persists
I know that his mobo is a intel mobo on the i845e chipset

Let me guess, it's a Dell?

it's a OEM company in malaysia called vikings computer

Ok, well Intel's online documenation will tell you the function of every dasm pin on the PCI slots, but nothing about the things you want to know. Hang in there and maybe I can dredge something up. Did your friend learn a lesson today...?

Ok, I sort of take back my nasty comment about Intel's documentation, it does show the BIOS menus: ftp://download.intel.com/design/motherbd/pt2/A8491301.pdf

Unfortunately, it says there's no option on the CPU speed, just like you say. Maybe go double or nothing: unplug the computer from the wall, appeal to the higher power, clear the CMOS again, plug the computer back in and see what happens.

I don't see how your friend thought this would work, however. His dad would certainly notice that the system suddenly does not ask for the password anymore! :p
