*Urgent* - my computer broke and I need it for finals! Is there any really good technical guys here who can help me?!

My whole system crashed... blah, it's happened before. I thought nothing of it. So I formatted my HDD and popped in my WinXP Pro disc to start the setup when I first boot up my computer.

But at the blue "Windows Setup" screen, I get this horrible message:

File setupdd.sys could not be loaded. The error code is 14
Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.

WinXP will NOT install! And it's just not my disc, because I've tried others. My hardware config is fine, my BIOS checks out okay... I don't know what to do, and my techie friends don't know what to tell me.

Installing Win98 just ends up with the computer hanging when it says "copying setup files". I can't install ANY OS....

How can I get my computer back up and running? If anybody out there is able to help me like one-on-one through PM's or something, I'd appreciate it, because I have some papers to write for finals and I'm kinda screwed without my comp.

I've tried everything.... please help a guy out if you can. Thank you for reading this

hi,
if your system has been crashing and you get setup errors this could be a sign of bad ram.
try downloading docmemory from here
or do a google on memtest.
either should allow you to create a boot floppy with a memory checking program on it.
good luck

Stop and think for a minute. What is the common symptom of everything you have said??? You can' t do much of anything from the CDROM! Do as fisher suggested and try a new one. I think that will fix your problem.
