Urgent laptop help

Ok so long story short, my friend dropped a guitar and part of it hit the screen of my laptop. Now ithe screen's basically dead. How much does this kind of repair cost? I've been told ~$500, would this be accurate?

sometimes repairing just the screen alone can be more than the price that was originally paid for the laptop...i suggest placing a call to the manufacturer or a repair shop to get an estimate on a total screen replacement for your specific brand/model. bank on it costing a bunch though!
 
It really depends on what BRAND the laptop it is.

If it is a relatively new laptop (less than 2 yrs) then it may be harder to
locate replacement parts.

If it is older than 2 yrs, your best bet is to do a search on eBay for a used panel.

Is the PANEL itself visibly cracked?
If not, it may just be the backlight that is damaged (and replaceable).
