Urgent: Installing SUSE Linux 10.1 (Dual Boot with Existing Windows XP Pro SP2)

im on a Windows XP Pro SP2 system and need to dual boot SUSE Linux 10.1 effectively and fully working.

i basically need to know what to download (i downloaded the file called "SUSE-Linux-10.1-GM-DVD-i386.iso" and it seems to be useless i dont know something which there is a good chance i dont), how to apply it for an effective dual boot, and get SUSE Linux 10.1 fully up and running.

i will do what it takes to find the right downloads and download them all and what not, i just really need to know how do this. i've searched online for so long there is absolutely nothing that helps me im really not sure what to do as ive NEVER worked with a linux installation before.

please help,

thanks!

First off you need a DVD burner...
Because you downloaded a .iso file which is used to create discs, cds/dvds...
And in your case, a dvd as you downloaded the DVD version of SUSE Linux...
Assuming you have a burner you need to burn the file to a dvd...
To burn it you can use DVD Decryter...
Then you need to partition your hdd, modify the boot sector and install Linux...
Now I believe the Linux installer can help you with the above...
But you'll need to check the documentation for SUSE Linux...
As I not to familiar with SUSE Linux...

this is what happens.

i know it needs to be burned -- and thats done. BUT no program can actually READ the .ISO file. nero sees it as an ISO file, so it just burned it on a DVD for me. DVD Decrypter or UltraISO reads it as an invalid filetype. and on the 40MB-mini image where it gives u choices of installs like hard drisk, network and stuff i went to an option to check my CDs/DVD for correct installation, and with the burned DVD in the drive it told me that i do not have a valid SUSE Linux Installation CD.

at the same time i insert the DVD while windows is running, no auto-run. so in "My Computer" i find the DVD to try to "Open" or "Explore" it and it opens but there are no files whatsoever. i went into folder options to enable viewing hidden files and folders, nothing at all.

im so confused as to what to do here, and i need this to be done badly and soon, VERY soon.

edit:

i found a working version of the image. i will now try it out and see what i can come up with and keep posted.

No, no, no, no...
Linux, is a whole other Operating System...
You can't install it while you are in Windows...
After you burn it, you need to reboot from your DVD drive...
I just read up on it and it will partition your hdd for you...
So do this defrag your hdd...
When you burn the iso file from DVD Decryptor, you need to change the mode...
Go to Mode->ISO->Write...
Next you need to boot from you DVD drive...
Put the burned DVD in and reboot...
Your BIOS may be set up to check the dvd drive at boot up first...
If so great, you'll see the Linux installer...
If not you'll get windows booting...
Reboot and enter your BIOS and change the boot order making sure that the dvd drive is before your hdd...
This should get you to the Linux install...
It should walk you through what needs to be done...
Just remember that you want to partition your hdd so you don't erase Windows...
