I have an X24 1.13ghz and it's plenty fast for all the things you mentioned. It's a real good deal @ $800 as long as it's in good condition.
Compared to my 2.4ghz (533mhz bus) Dimension 8250, I can't tell the difference in normal tasks, but then I also upgraded the laptop's hdd to a 80GN, still 4200rpm's but much higher density than the previous 40GN it came with.

wow, that sounds awesome but isnt that system comparable to the one i posted? faster processor, smaller HDD, seems kinda equal. only difference is with tax the other is $300 less and has almost 2 years left on the warrenty

1.3 Pentium M is quite a bit faster than P3M 1.2

The HD is smaller but its 80GN vs 40GN, which has a higher aural density making it faster.

I'm not sure if if the battery life is longer, but my X31 w/ 1.4 lasts about 4:30 w/ screen on max brightness.

Does teh X30 offer integrated wireless?

Its up to you, just offering an alternative

The X31 that RichieZ posted is MUCH better than the X30.

It has a much more efficient and COOLER running CPU as well as better overall technology.

I would pay the extra $199 for the brand new X31 any day!

(I wish I had know this deal before I bought my X24 on ebay 3 months ago.....) :(

X40 and new X31's were just announced today. Perhaps IBM will discount their older models. Although $999 is a steal for that X31.

I got my X31 for $1274 during that hot deal in December. The $1274 price included the media bay and drive though, which is worth around $275-300. I love the little computer. I can get pretty insane battery life (5 hours +) with the screen brightness on low. On Tuesday I arrived on campus at around 9:00 AM, got home at 10:00 PM, and the computer had lasted me the whole day with about 8% battery life left. This was under normal usage practices at different intervals through out the day (note taking, web programming, e-mail, and internet). You obviously can't use the x31 for 9 hours straight, but I find it suits my needs perfectly.

I had a little trouble with the wireless, but it now works great after installing the Intel Wireless Connection software.

Btw, I do notice that the trackpoint nub rubs against the LCD sometimes. Anyone know how to alleviate the rubbing.

Reguardless it will be more than enough...

I nabbed a PIII 600 256 10GB 14.1 for a hell of a deal..

More than enough for e-mail, forums and my everyday mp3's..

RollerCoaster Tycoon and Monopoly are no challenge for it either...

So what did you end up doing? Buying the used laptop or going elsewhere?
