got a new fan for the old Kyro II (I know, I know, the old blorb is dying), anyways, the Kyro II only has a two prong connector on it (for the fan), but the Crystal Orb I got has slots for 3 prongs. It also came with a connector so that I can connect to to one of the power supply thingies. Which do I connect it to? The Kyro board, even though it's missing a prong, or the PSU? Does it make a difference? I dun think it would as all it needs is power, but just cautious.

Second, the Crystal Orb came with some "heatsink silicone compound". The word heatsink leads me to believe I put it on the heatsink, that correct? And how much do I put on? As much as I would put on the processor (very thin coat), or do I GLOB IT ALL ON? ;)

Thanks,

Think i solved the first one. The connector the fan came with to hook it up to the PSU only connects to two of the prong things, so I figure I can just hook those same two to the corresponding ones on the Kyro II board.

What about the silicone compund: on the chip or the heatsink?

Your obervation about the power sounds right ... it only needs the two leads, and as long as it came with a connector for the PSU you should be fine as long as you connect it properly.

As for the thermal compound, it should only be used between the chip and the heatsink. I can't conceive of any reason to apply it to the heat sink fins, since you don't need a thermal connection between the heatsink and fan for it to cool. Besides, it would only potentially impede airflow and may get stuck in the fan!

Unless you want to reseat the heatsink, you should be fine just securing the fan on top as it is.
