Urgent Help Please!

I was running kombuster and all off a sudden my computer just turns off. After which I just will not turn back on. There is zero response whatsoever.

I m trying to figure out what could have gone wrong. The lights on the board such as the ROG sign and power/reset are still illuminated which leads me to believe its not the psu.

Temps on the cpu were 60 while running Kombuster.

So I m guessing it is either motherboard or cpu that have failed. The system is approximately 2 years old

E8500 9.5*450 @ 1.36V
VTT was 1.38
Striker 2 Extreme
GTX 460
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 910W

I have no components that I can switch without purchasing new ones and I have very little cash. I really need some help identifying what has gone wrong.

Thanks in advance.

Try removing the graphics card, and see if you get a beep.

If not, start removing everything but a stick of memory, and see if you get a beep.

If you do, start connecting things one at a time till you don't.

perhaps your O/C isnt stable? if you turn off the switch behind the PSU and then back on does it work? your PSU is strong but it could still fry without apparent reason.

I reset the CMOS and got a response but nothing came up on the screen. Looked inside the case and noticed one the components on the back of graphics card pcb glowing red hot and smoking. Something tells me it shouldnt do that!

When you run tools like that you should always have your case open to physically see what's going on and to help with air flow.

CPUs will shut themselves off before burning out, GPUs do not have that function yet.

Recommend you physically unplug the PSU from the socket/surge-protector/UPS.

Cycle the power-button so the capacitors are depleted.

Pull your video card from the computer.

Reset the cmos.

Plug your power cable back into the PSU.

See if your computer will "boot" without the GPU installed. You won't see anything of course but lets make sure fans spin up and the BIOS attempts to post.

If it does then power-off and install the gpu, then power back on and see if it posts.
