Are there any ACPI options in the Chipset or Advanced menus of the laptop BIOS? Also, if you have a bootable flash drive, you can try copying your Win7 install files to it and installing from there.

I don't have a flash drive. I have a external HDD though.

Well, the only thing I can think of is that the BIOS installed is not compatible with Win7 in its current form and can't be made to be compatible. I hesitate to tell you to flash an older BIOS as I can't find any information about what might happen (i.e. I don't know if you would brick the system, which might not be covered under warranty). There just isn't much information on Google about this particular laptop and how to get Win7 running on it.

I think that since you erased the recovery partition your only solution at this time is going to involve contact with ASUS support.

BTW, I have never seen a manufacturer charge this much for restore discs.

I'm not a fan of the way Asus handles system restores, but in their defense, one of the very first things you see when you boot up a new Asus computer (as well as one of the first things in the setup guide) is a reminder to create the restore discs before you do anything else with the system. They do charge way too much for physical discs, but it only takes a few minutes to create them with the Asus utility when the restore partition is still intact...

ASUS's factory restore media has always been a bit more expensive than most. They also tend to be more secretive about system internals and don't publicly release even a fraction of the technical service data that Dell or HP/Compaq does.

However, I think that the advent of Win8 has now for the first time given them the ability to gouge customers on a large scale. In this case, the OP has no choice but to go to ASUS. Thus, they can charge twice as much for the restore media as before.

I have to tell you, I really don't like this at all as ASUS tends to get large numbers of the least sophisticated users buying at Best Buy or Walmart -- just the type of users who will be the most likely to be taken advantage of in this sort of situation. I honestly wouldn't be shocked if the BIOS incompatibility in this case with Win7 turned out to have been intentional.

I purchased a W8 disc.

Now just pray to the computer gods that it will go on flawlessly and not give issues too...

Otherwise I will raise hell with Asus....
