Urgent help needed to find a car cover.

Backstory - over the last week someone has been shooting all of the windows out of the cars in my parking lot with metal bb's. Police are fucking useless. Period. One guy had his windows shot out only a few hours after the safelite people finished fixing it.

I am looking for some sort of car cover with some cushioning on it. I went looking at Pep Boys, Strauss and Autozone today looking for one, but they are all paper thin and won't stop a bb.

Everyone is telling me that the covers will just be a magnet or target, but I am sort of near the far end of the lot, and the bb's don't have much strength where I am, so if the cover had any thickness, it would be enough to stop it.

Anyone have any suggestions on a brand of cover? I am coming up short. Car is an 09 RX-8 r3.

Yeah, I don't know wtf to do. The police are refusing to do anything unless someone gets hurt, and they are telling people to leave the lot, or take it up with insurance. A camera won't work because it's an open area.

We've been going through it since Thursday. A car cover is all I can think of getting until this whole thing blows away.

Get some 20" chrome rims. They'll think a big black gangsta rides in your car and leave it alone.

Unless its a big black gangsta who's running around blowing out windows with a bb gun. In which case, you're SOL

Maybe the police are giving you a hint. If people call the police, they won't come to this area, wink wink. You can kill whoever is doing this and the cops will not come, wink wink.

Other than that, all you can do is sew a blanket to a waterproof tarp. The tarp itself won't stop anything but maybe a blanket will. It's at least worth trying. You should be able to get a blanket from salvation army for really cheap.

Since we're looking for creative solutions, here's a suggestion.

1. Get a mockup of a car (something in the general shape/size of any car).
2. Put some C4 in it.
3. Cover with tarp/car cover and some sort of pressure sensitive trigger.
4. Idiot comes over with bb gun,
5. Shoots at car
6. Boom.
7. Idiot knocked unconcious.
8. Collect reward money
9. Profit?

Dammit. While walking my dog just now, I noticed 2 more cars were hit, including the car next to me. I noticed a paint chip on my hood, directly in front of my windshield too.

The 46th Precinct was notified many times of the problem and has refused to do anything because no one has proof of where the shots are coming from. I've talked to them personally and was told they were going to "observe" but who knows what that means.

I am at a loss. In the last 5 weeks (much longer than I initially thought), there have been about 50 incidents. I've started to park my car in the street, and already have my back bumper damaged from someone parking behind me.

I don't know what to do. There is a community board meeting in our precinct 3 weeks from now, but, by then, I fear my car will be damaged further.

This sucks. I didn't go to work because I have to pick up my father from a hospital visit, and all I can think about is my car getting damaged while I wait for him to call me to pick him up. Dammit.

I really hate the people here. :|

It's simply amazing how the Police are ignoring this. There are only 18 apartments total that the bb's are coming from.

so, go to your local autozone or whatever and get a full car vinyl cover and call it a day?

not really, its petty vandalism, so they see it as not worth their time compared to other things.

why do people keep suggesting moving out? you can take a rat outta the hood, but you cant take the hood outta the rat. stay put and organize a neighborhood crime watch. make it public that the watch group will beat the perpetrator to a pulp if caught. should scare him away, unless perp secretly joins the watch group and learns all of the plans, then you're SOL.

A new car is still a target. If I had to vandalize either a new Ford Fiesta or a 10 year old BMW covered in dirt, I'm pretty sure I would shoot the new Fiesta.
