URGENT, Help me Re-Create Dual-Boot Menu, Your NT-Expertise Needed!

Kind of hard to explain, but I need to know how to Re-Create Dual-Boot Menu so I can access my WinXP partition once again.

Here is the story:

C:\WinME (using this for testing purposes)
D:\WinXP (using standard dual-boot menu)
______________________________________

I re-image (GHOST) back my old WinME partition, but I forgot that the WinXP's DUAL-BOOT menu resides in this C:\partition.
Needless to say, I'm caught without a way to boot into my WinXP

Am I all out of options? Is it possible to re-create? [i[(I have access to other machine with Dual-Boot menu, just let me know which files I need to copy over)[/i]

I'm trying to avoid Re-Installing WinXP if @ all possible.

This is worth a try:

Boot from Win XP CD
Do repair installation from repair console
Do a MBR repair it (FIXMBR I think)
It should look over your system, find that you have dual OS's and change the boot menu to give you that option as well.

Credit to Brutuskend who told me about this trick

Sounds like to me you need to set the active partition back to the one that was XP. If it is going directly into windows 98/SE/ME and not even giving you the menu, the active partition is set to that one. Once you set in back to XP's partition it should be fine. You can do this in FDISK.

Plus, are you sure you copied the XP partition? Ghost doesn't necessarily copy both paritions on a drive all the time.

If that doesn't work, if you can get into the XP partition, you can edit the boot.ini file to recreate the menu. Do a search for boot.ini here

Sorry Rydogg, but you are a lil off.

The active partition did not change. Just follow the steps mentioned in the first response, and you should be OK. Just editing C:\boot.ini will not work, because the NT Loader needs to be "reinstalled" on C:.

Too bad Microsoft just doesn't release NT Loader as its own piece of software. I find it quite useful, although other boot loaders like xosl aren't bad.

SuOrangeMan is right, setting the active partition won't work because of the NTLoader crap!

I will try the Murphee's suggestion now, I'll inform everyone on the progress later

Unfortunately, it didin't work

Despite getting into he Recovery Console, and typing FixMBR, I NOW get the message saying NTLOADER Missing,
to make the matter worst, it wipe out the abilit to access WinMe on C:\

I reimage the original WinME back again, this time I try the BOOTCFG command from the recovery console
I type BOOTCFG /Scannow, then
BOOTCFG /rebuild

However, I'm back to the NTLOADER Missing message.

Perhaps I"m doing it in wrong order. Does anyone here knows Exactly what to type???

Hopefully I'll get an answer by tomorrow, or I will have to reinstall again

You are also going to need the files Ntldr and Ntdetect.com files to be present on the boot volume (i.e. the active partition) you can copy those from the I386 folder on the Windows XP CD. The bootcfg command should have created the boot.ini file for you and that is the 3rd file required to start the boot up.
