I was switching out one of my hard drives while making a second system. My case made a fairly hard bump with my hard floor. Now while trying to boot up, half way through Win2k I get INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE with some hexadecimal address.

It says to run chkdsk /f which I have not done yet. Is my hard drive screwed? Also, when booting up it says Wait. . . and takes a while to find the drive but it finally does. Everything is plugged in correctly. Is this drive lost? Damnit I have some important stuff on there like programming projects. I need some help please. Will this be recoverable. This is the worst time for this to happen.

Thank you,
Stupendous

doesn't sound good. i'd slave it up on another system quick (win2k if you went with ntfs) and get your files off ASAP! even if it's not gone yet, you can scan it that way, but i'd get as much off as you can first.

It means the motherboard can not access your hard drive for whatever reason. Make sure all cables are correct and not loose. Try what they said above also.

Hey thanks. I installed the messed up drive into another system and salvaged the vital data.

All cables were correct. There are notches on the cable and where you plug it in so you cannot plug it in so pin 1 is not lined up correctly. Plus, in the BIOS it detects the drive immediately with no probs. I think the bump I gave it may have damaged the FAT.
