Brother is looking to buy ASAP an external 40GB+ firewire harddrive, and it has to be MAC compatible.

Since it needs to be quick (and as cheap as possible), no internet places are acceptable ... just the local places like CompUSA, BestBuy, and CircuitCity ... I see brand names like Acomdata.

Are they good or should I stick with the typical HDD manufacturers ? What would be a good price range?

Normal size is fine... he needs to bring it to a recording studio for his band.

Just finished checking BestBuy... the only one that qualifies is the Acomdata... is that a trusted external HDD brand ?

Why not just get a Firewire external case? Then you can put any drive in it you want. It is a flexible option. There are some cases that have both Firewire and USB 2 - take your pick.

if he wants something really portable i suggest a laptop drive and an external firewire case

that way the drive powers through the bus and you dont have to plug it in to use it

yeah buying a case and a drive is a cheaper way to go.

otherwise I suggest you check places like office depot (and if they have any coupons) and look for BUSLINK drives, they're not bad
