Trying to buy a case and the one I want comes only with a 330w Enermax ATX PS. How much of a difference does the whisper model make? Want to order soon, so please give your thoughts. Thank you very much.

If you're wanting to know how quiet the Enermax 330w is, I have this model and it's so quiet that it's freaky. You literally have to put your head up close to it to be able to hear it and even then all you're hearing is the airflow over the grille. I'm a spaz about noise, and I would recommend this PS to anyone, plus it's usually several bucks cheaper than the models with FC.

Got that PSU too, i can barely hear it at all, to do so I have to unplug every other fan in the case, and lean down with my ear to the PSU grill.... my 120mm Sunon@5v is louder than it, and that's saying something....

cheers

Lots of confusion about the Enermax. All of them from the 285 on up have 2 temp controlled fans. I think that they are all referred to as "Whisper" models, rightfully so.

Standard model has a harness that allows the mobo to monitor the exhaust fan rpm. internal temp sensor.

Fan Control (FC) model exhaust fan must be powered externally, usually by the mobo, and also has rpm monitoring. Basically, the board can shut that fan off in sleep mode, same small amount of noise as the standard model when running.

FC model also has a remote temp sensor. I suppose it could be attached to some warm spot like the northbridge chip or HDD to speed up the fan and assist case cooling.

Seems like the marketing guys are in the ascendancy at Enermax, the extra "features" of the FC model would only be useful in special circumstances...

Maybe I'm a victim of marketing hype, but I'm kinda regreting not getting the FC model.

It appears the temp cutoffs for increasing the fan speed are quite high that they seldom are reached (40+ degrees is what someone said for the first change). I think having the probe in a hot spot (HD or CPU) would make better use of the two fans for case cooling rather than just PSU cooling.
