Hi folks

i´ve got an RADEON 64 MB VIVO, ABIT Kt7-100 Raid,W2k, SB Live Value....
VCR is connected with an scart adaptercable to the ViVO and SBlivevalue.
Drivers are the latest special purpose ones and the Legacy VfW (under W2k thx to Niccolt), MMC7.1 and DVD4.1 and Intervideo WinDVD2.4 installed lately.
In the beginning the card captured perfectly in AVI and MPEG2 format (audio was captured with PCM 48 Khz, 187 kbs)
with the VCRmode of the ATI MMC VideoIn.
AviIO and VirtualDubcapture worked good too.
Now after a pause with capturing i suddenly found out that, when i am capturing (no matter which captureprogram , which format...)
the capture files has NO SOUND anymore, or at least i cant hear it.

When i activate the Radeons VideoIN i can hear the sound of the my VHS cassettes or CableTV perfectly, so the sound is coming into my pc´s SBlive LineIn and to the Creative DTS 2500 Speakers.
BUT it is not being captured anymore!?
I deinstalled ATI MMC7.1 and DVD4.1 and reinstalled it. With no success. All program and sound options have been checked.
Sound is nowhere set on "mute"... Line in is not "muted" or set too quiet.
Could be the lately installation of the WinDVD2.4 the reason?
I cant remember any big chances on my system since the last successfull capture.
I just cant figure any reason why i cannot capture/hear any sound in the file anymore.
Has anyone a hint or idea what could be the matter i am just getting crazy about this thing.
Big thx in advance for any help.

bye

>has NO SOUND anymore, or at least i cant hear it.

You did say win2k did you, if you are doing a recording as a user, try this... with the same settings, as a user try recording a 10 second clip. see if there's sound and log-out. Log-in as Administrator open TV and record a 10 second clip without changing any settings and see if you have sound. If you don't have sound as a user I bet you that you have sound with the Admin account or vice versa.

Let me know. I may have a fix for that.

Thx Niccolt,

but i am always logged in as Admin, never used the "user" account at all.
Seems like it has nothing to do with.
I probably had once a similar problem with my hauppauge tv card when capturing.
So i used a tool called audioselector (audiosel.exe) which could change the way the sound came in (line in , etc..) but sadly it doesnt work under W2k and it needs an file called HCWTVWND.dll in the WINNT/system32 directory (i havent the haupaugge anymore)
Dunno if this would have solved the problem at all. Any user had any problems with the sound before?

That's ok though. Either playing games or doing captures, when login in as a user you use up less resources than the admin so you actually improve system performance and you benefit to log in as a user. Somehow removing the MMC doesn't remove the line-in configuration or setting for that user, in this case the admin since it's the only user, and it has to be reinitialized. When you reinstalled the MMC did it ask you to reinitialize the Line-in? Somehow the line-in config doesn't get removed. I removed everything ATI in the registry and files and I still couldn't remove that setting.

I was going to suggest to create another new user account and log in as that user, it will force MMC to re-initialize the Line-in for that user, you can then move all your data to the new user and blow away the other one. It's a pain in the ass but better than reformatting.

Hi Niccolt,

i SOLVED the problem due to a posting from you here in a similar soundprob thread.
I checked the sound volume options again for recording and checked the box for "what you hear" . NOW it records with sound again. Without your post i would never have found this solution, because the admin/user account switch did not help me. Just guessing what has been the reason, why it worked once without "what you hear" being activated and just lineIn box being checked.

thx again

well It's good to >hear :)

that's bizarre because I had the same problem but with a user account and the what you hear didn't work. It worked fine in Admin but nothing I did worked for user. We'll put this one in the x files.
