URGENT: BAD mobo problem?

I was resetting my graphics interface to onboard video (http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=101835), and I took out my 6600GT. While I was taking it out, the back of the card, which has the CRT / DVI slots, tapped on the metal part of the back of the case (where it's supposed to go) and the whole system lit up about 3-4 times.

After that, I couldn't use the back USP / PS2 / keyboard slots...

Major problem with mobo? Or power supply? Or what..

Before that, I found out that I only rebooting after: Opening IE / Opera, Opening the nvidia display settings, closing the IE / opera window, and clicking on the desktop. Doing this ANYTIME would result in an instant reboot.

Back to the mobo(?), Could this be a major problem? I can STILL use the front USB ports, and the 6600GT still does work (If I put it back in, it boots in at 1024x768 as usual), but I CANNOT use a keyboard, or the back USB / PS2 / keyboard slots, only the front.

Solutions?

hi, i read all the info on that link and the other link, so i feel safe to say...
1. your dell powersupply cant handle the load of an added device aka geforce 6600gt, also
2. your errors prior to you frying your motherboard sound motherboard related, but id start with a fresh reinstall of windows to see if is or not hardware like the motherboard or powersupply causing reboots in non intensive things, you game for 2 hrs fine, but minimizing, etc caused reboots at times?
3. regardless of #2, its very likely your motherboard is bad now, when ps2 mouse/keyboard, usb ports all stop after you doing hardware stuff, i feel its safe to say it is your motherboard is that problem due to it shorting out. but front usb work... so it likely sections got damaged. also, you took out, the back of the card, which has the CRT / DVI slots, tapped on the metal part of the back of the case while there was power going to the pc??? its best to just unplug the cord to the power supply next time to be very safe. what exactly do you mean by lit up 3-4 times after this occured?
4. since it is a dell, your going to need a new case/ power supply (400watts+). the higher the quality of the power supply the better otherwise you may run into those nasty reboots randomly. also a new motherboard..

Sounds like a mobo problem then..🙁

I'll just take it to a local PC store and double check.

Most stores will charge for this though? what about best buy

i think most will charge you the trouble shooting. since its a dell and your conditions are so specific, and you need to replace a few parts as it is, i would just go buy an asus board that will work with your cpu, ram, video card, and get a 400+ watt powersupply/ new case. though best bang for your buck is take the whole thing and pay the fee to have them check it all so you dont find out your other parts got damaged. or borrow parts from another pc to test your parts.
