Philips 107P10 Professional
Sony CPD-E230 FD Trinitron

Im am trying to choose between these two 17" monitors. the Sony one is AU$15 more than the Philips, but from the spec sheet the Philips has a higher refresh rate than the Sony.

I sent an email with a few questions to the store that im going to be purchasing from, and the person that replied said that he reckoned the On Screen Display of the Sony one was better for adjusting the image. For all i know they might just want me to buy the slightly more expensive one.

have any of you got either of these monitors? what were your thoughts? also, if any of you know a fair amount about monitors could you please go to botht he links above and read the specs and give me your opinion.

I will be ordering either later tonight or tomorrow, thats why im hoping for some speedy replies.

thanks! :D

I have the Philips 109P20 which is the 19" version of the 107P10.

The philips monitors use a mitsubishi tube, which is the equal of anything sony makes for the same price if not slightly better.

The philips OSD controls are standard from budget to high-end and are easy to follow and provide plenty of options.

What price are you looking at for the monitors? I can personally reccomend C. W. Supplies as a good supplier; they are no-nosense and fast. They currently carry the philips for $618 before freight and the sony for $603. Price list page 1, Monitors section.

Yes, I have dealt with Scorpion Technology before also. Handy for certain components CWS does not stock.

I looked at the specs on the sony, and it has a variable dot pitch tube (.24 to .25) where the philips has a uniform .24 dot pitch. That alone tilts the odds in philips favor for me at least.

Also with the philips you are getting a pro grade monitor and electronic componentry to match. The quality of electrical components in a monitor is as important as the tube quality. Finally Sony have been known to be less than helpful if your monitor breaks down. Philips have great service (not that I have ever needed it for their monitors - I still have old amiga monitors made by them going strong).

ive done a little more research and i will be getting the Philips one. between yours and a couple of other people comments, no one has said anything bad about it. i'll probably be ordering it tomorrow, then picking it up sometime next week (as i live a little out of Melb.)

i'll share my comments on it for anyone else who may be interested.
