8600's are aweful, spend $80 more (230) and get yourself a much better card.
Cheapest pricegrabber price for a 8600GTS an evga for $140.
evga 8800GT 256MB $230
sapphire HD3850 $170
sapphire HD3870 $235
x1950 pro $100-150

Its on par with a 1950 pro (plus directx 10) if you can nab it for less than 120 go for it.

I wouldn't pay anything over $90 for a used 8600gts. You can get a used 1950xt for a little over $100, which would smoke the former card, and for $170 you can get a new 3850, which is about 2x as fast.

Unsure what monitor / rez you are running. Also unsure what quality settings you like to use.

If you are running a 1280x1024 (or less) monitor then it's a fine used buy for $100-$120. If your monitor Rez is higher. Say 1680x1050 or higher ... you'd want to evaluate based on the games you play. But generally for a 1680x1050 or higher I recommend a 3850, 3870, or 8800 series.

Again though I don't know what you play or the quality settings you like, so I don't know if you can "get away" with the 8600GTS.
