i've been an athlon user for sooo long i don't know where to begin. but i'm gonna change from an athlon xp 2000+ to a p4 2.0ghz, but i have no idea what motherboard to buy. i need DDR support, and i DO NOT Overclock at all

built in LAN would be nice

please advise me guys!

specs of processor:2.0Ghz P4 processor. 512k, 400mhzFSB, 478 pin

oh yeh, is that a good processor for $80?

Yes its a good processor for $80. I would match it up with a Albatron Pc845PEV Pro or the newer Abit BH7 - both go for about $80 to $90 shipped. I am running a 2.0 on the albatron board at 3.0Ghz and its rock solid stable. It deos have built in lan, USB 2.0, and 6 channel sound (as does the BH7). I tried a BH7 and the temps were too hot to me (CPU ran about 12 to 15 degrees higher in bios readings over the Albatron) but I think it was erroneous readings.

i think im gonna get that mobo, the Albatron. it's the one newegg recommends. can anyone talk me out of it or for a different one?

Probably not, There are better boards for $30-$40 more (My opinion) and if your realy arn't going to O.C. there are cheaper boards however you get what you pay for.

any cheaper recommendations orion? (that are still solid good boards just cheaper maybe) or even the same if they're better

If you really want to go cheap you can get the ECS P4VXASD2+ V5.X for around $50 shipped. I have built quite a few systems with this board and have had no problems. I don't think this board supports the HT technology however.

Stick with the Albatron. Great board. The Abit BH7 is another good one. If you want DC DDR, skip the SiS 655 and get an 865PE based board. You can get the MSI 865PE for a little over $100.
