I have heard they are rebranded Lexmark printers, but they do not use interchangeable cartridges. I have a 940 that prints great and it is supposedly the same as a Lexmark, but the finish is seemingly much better on the Dell from what I have seen in comparing the two.

I think their toner price is just about typical. I'm pretty sure you're stuck with Dell as a toner vender... but looking at current prices, they don't seem to be ripping anyone off.

I bought a P1500 laser a while ago ($99 hot deal, thanks to ATHD!) and have been very pleased.
The nice thing about their lasers (maybe the same for inkjets) is that they come with a "full" starter cartridge (3,000 pages).

I haven't checked the specs on the 1700, but Dell said "windows only" for the P1500 -- but linux drivers are freely available from lexmark. I even accidentally had the printer-port defined as a HP-Laserjet 4 when I printed something, and it printed great (and that's PCL 5 (i think))
(I didn't test pcl too much, so ymmv)

Price drop on 922... now $89 dollars without a coupon. $25 dollars off would make it $64. I think i'm going to purchase it, but I'm going to add three black cartridges for $72 dollars making it $161. Then you can use the $75 dollars off coupon since its over $150 dollars making it $86 instead of $64, but having a lot more ink. Its a way to save on ink cartridges if your worried about that.
