I just saw the video on the local news and it was disturbing. The cop is a Sgt. ie. he is a Supervisor, not a rookie cop or low ranking. No excuse for that bastard and his behavior. None.

Note how the young guy was calm and did not act crazy. Funny where was his "white privilege"? LOL.

Q: are you gonna slap me around next?

A: Ya, I'll rip your fucking head off and shit down your neck.

Not sure if cop has a "interacting with civilians" stripe on his jacket yet, but definitely getting one after this.

heh is everything north of... the bronx? upstate

it all depends really where you grew up or live I think. of course this can be argued for eternity, but Saratoga is north of Albany which, aside from "the capital district" is easily "upstate" new york. hell, you're almost in the Adirondacks.

Guy needs fired immediately, we dont need more officers like this. The fact that he thinks hes in the right even furthers that thought.

“I was concerned. It was a public safety issue,” Glans told the paper. “If I had to do it all over again … I’d probably do the same thing. If I knew the camera was there, no, because it does look bad.”

You don't say.

You want the best argument for cameras on cops? It's right there. While I'm sure most cops are good most of the time, even a good cop can be made better. I'm not saying this guy is good, he deserves to have his badge and gun taken immediately.

The cop shouldn't be suspended, he should be treated the way anyone else who slaps someone with no cause is treated: he should be charged with assault and thrown in jail. I generally support cops, and I think they should be held to a higher standard of conduct because of the power they are given, not lower. If they commit crimes, they should be punished even more strongly to preserve the public's confidence in the police force.

The fact that this clown still thinks he's in the right is indicative of systemic failure in that particular police department. They need to clean house.

I'd argue the cop who violated civil rights break two laws, the offense and some sort of public corruption charge for the breach of public trust. I'm fairly certain the laws wouldn't allow that second charge, but imo it's the far greater crime than the assault.

never argue with a fat cop..they are more likely to shoot you since they can't chase you.

Being passive to this is anti-American.

It's not so much the slapping, but forcefully removing the guy's keys and searching his vehicle illegally.

Sadly, people are accepting this.

Well if you're the guy getting searched, you can't really do anything unless you want to get shot and killed or jailed for life.

Alky is not talking about the dude standing there being accosted by an armed thug - he's talking about the rest of us focusing solely on the slap and not the illegal search/coercion.

In this case it really doesn't matter. The cop is crooked 6 ways to Sunday, does the 7th really matter?

I agree with this. I respect cops. They're necessary, and they do a tough job. But they're not infallible, and like any other human organization they will take power if it's offered. It's our responsibility to see that they use it in a way that is consistent with our values. If they don't then that power should be withdrawn, and when it is abused it should be resisted. It should be resisted intelligently and in a way least likely to lead to violence, but it should be resisted.

He must have gone to the George S. Patton school of policing. Glans should have had the foreskin to see that this would be a problem.

In 1999, the town of Wilton and Saratoga County paid $6 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the family of a 45-year-old man left paralyzed when a patrol car being driven by Glans smashed head-on into the other vehicle, according to a Times Union article on the case.

Douglas H. McEachron suffered critical brain injuries and a federal jury found Glans was negligent in the crash.

The deputy was responding to a 911 call and driving close to three times the posted speed limit around a sharp curve on Smith Bridge Road in Wilton when he lost control of his vehicle. Glans crossed into the oncoming lane and smashed head-on into McEachron's car.

sounds like he just cost the taxpayers a few more million.

A cop would have to be stupid to shoot you...he'd be stupid to arrest you too.

If the latter, you'd be out of jail very quickly with a call to any attorney.

A cop cannot search like was presented here....it's against our constitution.
