Actually management wants to mediate but I don't know how that will turn out. I am keeping all the options on the table and moving is one. Management apparently does not want the video to be public or they have bad publicity so I set it to be private. In the video, the neighbor says, "This is War." several times while screaming about how he declared war on me.

Did you say this guy is a professor? This is a little hard to imagine. Is he a visiting professor? What is he a professor of? He's from France???

Wtf are you talking about? Dude will probably think OP is approaching him for a fight and attack him. No use in trying to reason with a neanderthal.

Yeah these guys that lately recommend just taking out an adversary to dinner must never leave their bedrooms.

'Mediate'? Seems like hand waving and won't accomplish much. The chances of a good outcome for you don't seem to be very good. (I'm a pessimist in this case.)

2% They make other tenant move.
48% You guys compromise and you stop showering and making noises after 10pm and he stops over-watering his plants.
50% They suggest you move.

If he is French, you'll seriously fubar the situation by apologizing to him. He'll forever see you as weak and someone to be abused. You do not reason with the French, you command them.

how about you live normally and ignore his stupid ass?

when he tries to record evidence that you're bothering him management will say 'what the hell are you talking about, they're not doing anything'

Hi XXX,

I will find out about relocation and let you know tomorrow what might be available and what penalties we can help avoid.

I wanted you to know that we went in your apartment today to turn on the fan and then go upstairs to listen. It was not excessively loud, but it does hum at a low rate. I could hear the fan in the upstairs bedroom and bathroom. For now, we would like to ask you not to run your fan if you are showering late at night (during quiet hours). If you notice that you begin to have a buildup problem of mildew in a few weeks, please let us know so that we can come over and assess the situation.

We gave your neighbors the campus police number as well to call for noise problems, so that we can have a third party involved at night. Please also call the police if any further problems occur (xxx-xxx-xxxxx).

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Best,

HAH!!!!

You should've told them you would take it down after they do something about the guy. If you don't feel safe and have good documentation about the reports you made there must be a way to move out without breaking the contract. I would think the complex you live in is somewhat responsible for the safety of it's tenants. With your documentation if anything were to happen to you or your wife you can prove that they did nothing to help resolve this issue.

Personally I would of just decked him one the second he tried to rush into my apartment.

Tell them you are not paying a damn thing to be re-located. It isn't your fault that the guy is such a light sleeper that he can be awaken by the fan. Also he is the guy giving you threats not the other way around.

LOL. Op, I was not joking or being facetious. The only way to deal with a crazed Frenchman is to stand up to him and possibly slap or headbutt him and then get drunk afterwards. :) He'll be your best friend for life.

Since its hot as hell outside. If you want to make him suffer, go switch off the breaker that goes to his AC unit (usually all located on an outside wall). He'll probably just think his AC is broke and will have to wait for the complex to fix it (at least a day or 2). Continue to do this every week.

Also a bottle of roundup will make short work of his plants.
