/shrug. I enjoy catching people in the act when they bother me in my own apartment. Take pictures, go to front office, report, then lol on your way back home. Rinse repeat as necessary.

Kick his a** the next time he steps in your apt.

This, as soon as he is in the door, have your roommate close it and pull a bronx tale.

sheesh, I'll trade your upstairs neighbor for mine. Last year he got upset over who knows what and slammed my roof with baseball-size hail. Cost 13K to replace the damn thing (luckily the ins. covered most of it). This year he almost hit us with a couple of his tornadoes.

I had a very similar problem with my neighbour water leaking etc. Causing damage in my condo.
I went to a farmer i know, i buy some organic food from him etc. I asked him for 6 jugs of liquid manure (think piss mixed with #2) they spray fields with this stuff. The prick went away for the long weekend than i poured this stuff under his door took him 3 day to get back home and when he did he learned his lesson.
I suggest you do the same works like a charm.

Talked to the leasing office and reported everything. I found out the dude is a Professor moved in 10/2010(probably visiting since he didn't seem to have much furniture). Luckily I'm not an undergrad anymore. For now, I'm going to let it deescalate since wifey was getting mad at me for even getting involved in the first place. :( (roommate = wifey)

Update: Neighbor continues doing his thing with the watering and flooding my balcony. I just document it, I am not going to deal with the psycho head on. This morning he posts a note on my door about "quiet hours" that I should not shower after 10PM.

This is after last night where him/or his kid were stomping like elephants till 11PM. It was so apparent that even my cell camera can pick up the vibrations.

:( The leasing office just told us to call the police if he ever threatens us but it'll be a he/she said type situation. If worse comes to worse they relocate us because right now we are afraid to go out at night in the complex to the gym or even use the pools.

Was I wrong for even going up to talk to the guy face to face about the problem first? Should I have just went straight to management and not have a friendly neighborly chat?

Time for you to go to the leasing office and say " I really like this complex and do not want to move but i can not take it anymore from my psychotic neighbor, he is torturing us and its gotten beyond weird. Can you please move me and my wife to another unit"

Gonna cost you a few hundred bucks but it will be worth it and your leasing office will prolly let it happen. if the argue, call their corporate office and complain. Then proceed to start calling the cops on the upstairs neighbor and giving notes he leaves to cops about harassment.

Yeh, good suggestions.

you have to be proactive on this one. From the incidents I have read in your thread if it were me I would be through with this guy and want to get away from him. He's unreasonable.

Nope. Use your camera phone to record him for evidence.

Recorded audio of him once the first time when he came to my door and I emailed it to leasing office and showed it to them in person. But I didn't record the 2nd time where he came down at 1AM (2 hours later) to do his tirade since I came out of the shower and was brushing my teeth. I also recorded the loud elephant stomping from last night, but vibrations don't really come out well on a cell phone camera (you just hear loud static when the vibrations occur like from a turned up sub woofer).

Well I spoke with the leasing office again and they said the unit upstairs MAY move out by early Oct./end of Sept.

I am seriously considering moving but I just spent almost 3 weeks moving/packing both my SO's and my own stuff from two different apts and I am almost unpacked, if I was going to move I would not stay in the complex.

Tell them that, not us. They are the ones who can do something about it. I'd be pissed as hell.

Agree, please tape and put on youtube.

Quiet hours does not include showering. Make sure you do shower.

Whatever you do don't reach up onto his balcony with small amounts of gasoline and pour it on his plants.

I did they said something about asking maintenance people to help move (which I know will not work). They were willing to relocate us to another building in the complex but I just took off so many work days and spent over $500 to move both of our stuff in.

Another reason I'll gladly carry a mortgage, pay property taxes and even HOA fees.
it's a reason not to live in an apartment complex, at least.

living in 2-3 family houses, I've had almost uniformly good experiences with my neighbors. I think people realize that it's more important to get along when you actually know each other as more than just a thumping base from the unit upstairs

$500 or less and a weekends time for sanity and the maintenance guys willing to help - You are moving things across a complex - not across town. No need to pack - use a few boxes and pack/unpack a little at a time.

if you do not relocate the leasing office will think the problem is really not that bad and you are a whiner! Willing to stay with Psycho Napoleon for a few more months in the hope he leaves - F that!

If you stay you deserve to have the psycho torment you!

Fabricate a hose with an electronically controlled valve that is connected to a moisture sensor on your balcony. Aim it at his balcony and inform him how it operates and that the only time it will come on is when his water drips down onto the sensor. He is French so he will probably not understand until he gets his balcony soaked many times so be prepared.

I agree with Fmr12b. That's a really small price to pay for your sanity. It's clear the guy is a neanderthal and uncapable of reasoning with. Pack up your stuff and move across the street.

I'm really a "cut off my nose" type (and maybe not too bright for it) but I'd say loud sex with S.O. at 4:00AM would be most fun.

My shower would be on 24/7 if he pulled that shit with me lol. If he complains to management say you have ocd and you are trying to work it out in therapy, and hope they won't discriminate against you...
