Upscaling DVD player to match with Panny Plasma

I have been out of the loop for awhile. I have this Panasonic Plasma on the way. It can accept a 1080P signal but due to its native resolution it must downscale to 720P. I hear that my current Panasonic RP-91 makes a nice match to this Panel to watch older movies in 480i and let the panel do the upscaling. I need a upscaling player to get the most of my newer movies at 720P. I hear the Oppo 981 and Panny 97 are good choices. Got any opinions on what player to get? Thanks
