I have a CyberPower 900 UPS. I bought it 5yrs ago.

yesterday it shut down after i went to sleep. (i had my computer on overnight.) I pressed the on button this morning and everything seemed fine.

today when i came home from work, the UPS was off again. This time the computer was off.

Both times there was no power failure since my alarm clock wasnt blinking 12:00am.

nothing has changed for months. the last change was adding a 27" LCD, but this was back in August.

How long does a UPS usually last?
Is it time for a new UPS?

Thx

edit:
900VA, not 1500 like i thought

What does the CyberPower PowerPanel software report about the state of the UPS?

i've never installed/used it. i just plug in the devices.

if there's a power failure, i shut down manually on my own schedule.
i dont want it shutting down when i'm in the middle of something.

guess i'll install it. now to find the serial cable, which i may have thrown out 5yrs ago :(

My 1500LCD connects via USB.
The software is configurable as to when it shuts down the PC.
Options are...
* Keep PC running until there is 5-8 minutes of battery life left.
* Shut down PC when running on battery power for 1-5 minutes.

Batteries in a UPS are not going to last much longer than 5 years, so I'm guessing battery as well. Whether or not the light is on for replacement, it shouldn't last longer than 5 years. Possible burnt out LED on the UPS as well, so expect to pay a hefty sum for those batteries as well.

5 years is a long time, I just replaced a few that were almost that old.

If you install the UPS software, it will perform battery tests every so often and tell you when you need to replace it. You can use it to configure when you want it to shutdown. I tell my main PC to hibernate when there is less than a few minutes of battery power left.

I bought batteries from http://www.batteryspec.com/, for my UPS , alarm and mower. Work well.
