UPS Question

I just bought an APC Back-UPS 1100 Pro and when running Powerchute I noticed it won't allow me to run smart signalling. I found some documentation online that stated the Back-UPS only supports simple signaling, but the Back UPS- PRO can in fact support smart signalling. I can't get it to work with Smart Signaling, I'm wondering if it's a Windoze XP problem with the Powerchute software, or if I need to buy a special smart signaling cable to make it work.

I am not familiar with the Back-UPS line but the SmartUPS line does indeed use a special cable. It -looks- like a regular 9-pin serial cable but the pins are wired differently. There are a number of sites that show you how to wire your own smart cable. The APCUPSD (open source UPS monitoring daemon similar to Powerchute) user manual has such information plus alot of other information. You can get it at http://www.apcupsd.com. Sorry, Javascript isn't working in my browser so I can't furnish a real url link.

Cool, I see the problem, the cable that came with my UPS is a 940-00200, and according to the documentation only supports simple signaling. But it also says I can support smart signaling with a 940-0095A. THANKS!!!!!!!!
