UPS Question - Can you have a package returned to sender after it's in transit?

Hopefully the answer is yes and the solution is quick and easy...

I shipped an eBay item out to someone via UPS and now he says that he doesn't want the item. Anyone know if I can get UPS to not delivery the item and instead send the package back to the sender?

Yeah I dont think you can stop it during transit... i wanted cancelled an order that already shipped and they said they would need to attempt delivery at least once. i just refused it when it came. 🙂

That would be suprising if you couldn't... You can stop delivery using USPS.

Personally, I would imagine that if the item isn't out on a truck for delivery, it can be recalled.

Ah! I remember once that my dad had a very urgent package going to a hospital (he owns a surgical instrument repair business) and the surgery got rescheduled to another hostipital, and they needed the instrument hella badly. He spend hours and hours on the phone with UPS reps all night trying to get the packaged redirected.

hmmm...so it looks like I might have to get the guy to refuse it instead...I actually called up UPS and the person seemed like they weren't really sure about what to do...said that I had to call on the morning of the scheduled delivery to get them to send it back and that it wasn't even a sure thing that it'll happen.

Anyone else?

Yeah, I already did and the person was pretty clueless. I'm going to call them again soon (last time I called in, the item wasn't in the system yet), but just wanted to see if anyone had a definite answer.
