Ive got a problem with a ups i recently bought. It's a Giant netstar ups 650 va. I know you're not familiar with the brand because I think it's marketed here in asia only.

Here's the problem, whenever I try to test my ups by unplugging it, the pc reboots before the backup power kicks in. It renders my ups backup useless. Also, whenever the power fluctuates(usually when the power level goes down), it also reboots!!! Arrgh!!!!

I tested the ups on my other computer, a pentium 200, it doesnt reboot!

Here's the specs of my comp

1800+ athlon xp
ecs k7vta3 kt266a motherboard
256 ddr sdram
80 gig 7200rpm hd
gforce2 64ddr ti vx
17 inch ntc monitor
dvd drive rom
cdr/rw drive
300w power supply

I tried looking at the bios setup if I could tweak the power management setup but it still won't work.

Do you think maybe its because of the load?

Any help would GREATLY be appreciated.

could be loaded down too much...but 650va should be good for your setup (I think). Maybe that rating is a little too high.

Do you have the monitor plugged into the ups? if so, try it with the monitor plugged into the wall and only the computer on the ups.

you might have to buy another one for the monitor

No.

The UPS isn't switching from line to batt, I'm assuming that a 650va unit doesn't normally run off the batts and uses some sort of switch, try exchanging it... I think you got a defective UPS.

If you are running Windows XP, it's a bug. Use Windows update to correct this issue. If not, there is nothing I can think of.

Good luck.
