UPS Orvercharges & Lies About Rates

I go to the website to check the rate & it says it will cost $15.59 to ship my 23.65 LB. box from 20124 to 60056 iva UPS Ground. The website also said that t a "fuel surcharge" was included in the quoted price. I can't enter the dimensions in the UPS site, but they are 26X22X16.

Ground-PKD: $23.49
Fuel Surcharge: $1.12
The total was $24.61.

Now I was like 'fuck it' because I didn't feel like arguing with a postal lady about the cost & it would solve nothing. I look @ the receipt & the actual weight is 23.65 LBs, correct. The Billed Weight was... 45.00 LBs. WOW. What kind of jump is that? Add 20+ LBs onto my package.

Now, either way I look @ it, UPS bills you for WAY more weight than you are shipping in some circumstances &/or is purposely deceptive on it's website. Whichever (or both)is true, they are a fucking liar, a petty thief or both. They aren't getting my business directly ever again, this includes using them to ship from Amazon, DJDeals, etc. to my home address.

Really though, I guess everyone has a bad story having to do with all 4 of'em. Fedex, UPS, USPS & DHL. It's different if they damage a package or lose it, but this is blatant overcharging. They can fuck off with that. Terrible way to run a company.

Sure your scale wasn't set to kg?

If UPS was so blatantly ripping people off (as you are claiming) it would have come out LONG ago.

I'm much more inclined to believe you had the wrong weight.

The extra charge probably came from the size of your package. I have always been able to enter the size of my package on their website, I wonder why you were not. 😕

That being said I like UPS.

Yup thats it.

For UPS Ground Shipments: If the cubic size of the package is 5,184 or larger, divide the cubic size by 194 to determine dimensional weight in pounds. If the cubic size is less than 5,184, use the actual weight of the package.

Still, why not mention this? This would obviously be a common occurence.

Thanks for pointing that out though. Cheers.

Determine Dimensional Weight:

* For UPS Ground Shipments: If the cubic size of the package is 5,184 or larger, divide the cubic size by 194 to determine dimensional weight in pounds. If the cubic size is less than 5,184, use the actual weight of the package.
* For UPS Air Shipments: Divide the cubic size by 194 to determine dimensional weight in pounds. Round up any fraction of a pound to the next full pound.

Determine Billable Weight: Compare each package's actual weight to its dimensional weight. The larger of the two weights is the billable weight and should be used to calculate the rate.

26 * 22 * 16 = 47.175 (48lb).

You lose. They even gave you 3lb free. 😛

aand I'm late to the party. Ahwell.

You lose again. If you had used Detailed Time and Cost, you would've seen a place to enter dimensions.

 Nobody's lying about anything, you're just not paying attention. Don't worry though, lots of people don't bother paying attention either. Being in a rush and/or not caring will cost you more. The UPS Store is an independantly owned an operated organization that has every right to charge their own rates on top of the regular UPS rates. Also, UPS rates differ greatly depending on how you ship it.

As an example, The UPS Store uses a program called I-Ship while I, here at my business, use a program called WorldShip. Both places of business have a daily pick-up from the same exact UPS driver on the same exact route every day. I-Ship charges retail rates PLUS whatever additional fees that specific UPS Store chooses to apply to cover the cost of doing business. Worldship charges bulk wholesale rates. The UPS website charges regular retail rates.

You also need to take into account the size of the box being shipped, which will change your rate depending on how and where you ship.

Nobody is being "purposefully deceptive" because all of it is explained on the UPS website and/or through UPS's customer service reps over the phone.
