Home network: my PC = dual-boot (default Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy), WinXPPro for games); my wife's PC: straight WinXPPro. DSL. LinkSys router.
Desperately need a new UPS. I've sized/configured them before but always strictly for Windows PCs -- and *never* for networked PCs (in the sense of one UPS for both PCs, as opposed to individual units for each). Aside from the usual considerations -- VA, power dissipation, # of outlets, all that -- what do I need to consider in selecting one for this mixed environment?
For instance, suppose I get a unit like one of APC's with PowerChute software. I know there is (or was) a Linux app (apcupsd, I think) which does/did the same thing as PowerChute. Are there any issues in having the UPS sometimes managed under Linux and sometimes under WinXP? Does the software get installed on both PCs, or just one? Are there any "conflict" scenarios I need to worry about?
(Sorry for such an open-ended question; just not sure what, specifically, to ask. Heh.)
