ups ground vs USPS priority

i have to ship to ship guy in a college dorm. i was gonna use USPS prority (wouldn't even consider media mail) but the stuff won't fit inside a flat rate box and larger boxes (i plan to pack it properly) are too expensive via usps. UPS cost much less but i am not sure if they'll deliver to a PO box.

besides i'd prefer UPS to USPS.

I call BS on it being "too expensive via USPS". I've shipped 8800s for very reasonable rates. Are you packing it inside the original box first? What does the weight come to?

USPS is all about weight, size is irrelevant unless it's REALLY big.

Also, Fedex is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY cheaper than UPS.

Rule of thumb, less than 2lb, USPS. 3 lb, depends on location, >3lb fedex.

USPS Priority flat rate box should be less than $9.

Depending on the zone and whether or not the card is less than 2 pounds, you can probably get away with not doing a flat box fee and it should come out to a little over $6.

Just go USPS.

That would be because USPS Doesn't offer tracking.

Depends. How many pieces do you want it in? If more than 1 use UPS.

Delivery Confirmation isn't really tracking. It's... well for confirmation it was delivered.

And the funny part of this is, it can be confirmed delivered to the wrong address. Always insure a USPS package. I just can't send anything via UPS after seeing the way they handle the packages I receive.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but most college addresses are NOT considered P.O. boxes. In college I got UPS stuff delivered all the time, they simply stuck a slip in the box and left the package with the office.

Meh, it depends. For us at RPI, we have a USPS store with a USPS employee that's only good for outgoing mail, but our main campus mail center is also listed as a real USPS location. Mail boxes are setup as they would be in an apartment with the small boxes for everyone, then for something bigger, instead of a key, we just go to the package center. They sign for stuff too.

why would i BS about.
go to usps.
i measured the 8800gts box (only box not other packingi want to add) and its larger than either flat rate box. entering anyother size box means priority rate goes through the the roof (weight is 5lb or i've entered that atleast). add insurance and the general badness of usps.

ok so is there anyway to get ups/fedex to accept a PO box address.
i see fedex restircts their ground service to no PO box but that not written for express saver.

also does anyone know if signature is compulsory on a package sent by fedex. ups has it at an additional cost.
lastly can someone please tell me how i get them to deposit the package at a fedex location for pickup. do i ask while shipping or call in later or ??

You might be able to get away with Fedex/UPS delivering to a PO Box.

Fedex Ground does not include a Signature... thus cheaper price. For prepaid labels you can drop it off anywhere (kinkos, fedex center), but not at Fedex EXPRESS dropboxes.

When I lived in the dorms, the UPS just delivered to the central/front desk like they would an apartment.
