Managed to get XP running on a new notebook (Clevo P170 - nlited SATA and chipset drivers), but can't get it to sleep or hibernate. Apart from the UPS it seems to be working normally. The UPS tab is blank under the power options, and I can't start the service because I get a 2481 error. I'm dual booting win7. Any idea how to identify the device so that I can try to manually configure it in device manager? Or any other work around to get the service running?

Does it have some sort of ups driver installed ? i know apc installs certain ups drivers to communicate with the ups. What kind of ups are you using ?

Ah, that's the problem - I don't know because it's integrated with the notebook. I was hoping there was some way of getting its ID from something like HWinfo, but I can't seem to see anything. Under XP there is an option of selecting "generic" under "manufacturer" in the UPS settings, but then you have to manually set the parameters (which sound as though they could brick the machine if done wrong).
