I posted a question about an LCD Monitor that costco is delivering via UPS to me a while ago.

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=38&threadid=2054111

It'll arrive in a few days. In case worst comes to worst and the box arrives damaged and it's probable that the monitor was damaged, i can just refuse to accept it and have them ship it back to costco, right? And then costco would have to eat the return fee and give me a refund or send me another monitor? Or if they don't give me a refund, i can show to the credit card company that they didn't ship and have the charges cancelled, right? What should i do just in case the worst happens?

thanks!

No idea (and who knows, maybe they'll blacklist you if you do). But you can just return it to your nearest Costco as well. Shipping is free anyways.

Well... UPS kinda has a reputation of treating packages like crap so i want to prepare myself just in case...

What...because a few n00bs post about a damaged package on this forum...?

Come on dude. I can't even imagine how many packages UPS ships a day. I ship more packages via UPS in a month than most users around here ship in a year, and I've never had a problem.

So don't worry about the UPS "reputation" around here... just a bunch of hype

I'd accept it, and record the whole thing on video, accepting the damaged box, opening the damaged box, and attempting to use the LCD (if it's not obviously damaged, but if it's obviously damaged, just take it to costco, with your video, just in case).

confirmed. i deal with UPS package and freight on a daily basis, and if something arrives damaged, it's almost always because the monkey that shipped it didn't package it correctly.

like others have said, if it looks damaged, REFUSE DELIVERY. UPS will send it back to the vendor, and it'll be on the vendor to deal with the problem.

You're

OP - refuse it if it's damaged.

I ship a lot of things to other offices, PCs and whatnot. The best way to handle it is to accept the shipping and dispute it with them at a later date. If the package is worth quite a bit of money then they might actually bring someone out to take pics of the box and the item as all shipping companies have insurance for things like that.

The only time you would not want to sign for a box would be if the number of packages received does not match the number that should have been delivered at once or if the package is not yours.

Bah, with all this crap advice of "refusing it", you're going to make the OP refuse the package if it has a small dent in the box . Just take it, if the item is ruined, you can go through UPS claims and they're pretty cool about it.

Out of all of my UPS packages, I've only ever had one come through in bad condition. It looks like someone played water polo with my box. There was nothing electronic in the box though, so it was alright, but I still reported it to UPS. I've had dinged boxes, but LCDs and such are usually packed pretty well, so I've never had a dud LCD come through (and I've bought numerous LCDs and had them delivered via UPS).
