Does anyone have some basic tips when purchasing a UPS or surge surpressor and what to look for while comparing products? Any model recommendations?

If you want to sell items, make a thread in the FS/FT section.

Choose a company that sells mostly to the commercial and industrial markets rather than retail. That leaves 2 brands of surge supressors and 1 brand of UPS.

Now that was a helpful answer.......make the OP guess. :)

Personally, I'm using APC's right now and like them. But be aware, Tripp Lite is another great brand, and there's another brand that does contain a lot of APC componentry and batteries....cannot confirm without reservation that they use APC as their OEM, but are chock full of APC componentry (Cyber Power.)

don't buy a standby UPS. buy at least a line interactive. make sure it is rated high enough for your component draw and look for one with AVR(automatic voltage regulation)
