UPS and Heat Generation, any that are cooler?

I have two Belkin 900VA's in need of new batteries. While I was looking around for the serial number, I was reminded of the large amount of heat that they dissipate. These things are HOT, which doesnt help my already hot office during summer days. So I pose this question: are there any UPS models or companies which produce/generate less or little heat?

depend on how hot you mean by hot. I have an apc 1500lcd model and its moderately warm. mind you not run at full load

Id like to see one that is just warm, not hot, and not scalding hot. Basically I dont want one that is going to heat up my office.

well id say that this is warm, also its not really in the best ventilated place either is in a cubby that is in my desk in a corner with another desk in front of it

They all generate heat and there isn't going to be much of a diffrence from one to another without dropping to a smaller UPS. Much like your PSU a UPS changes the AC from the wall to DC to charge the battery then back to AC to send to the system. Each time your converting the electricity like that a good bit of heat will be generated. Best way to reduce the heat is to reduce the amount of power your system pulls. If the system pulls less power then there is less work being done to convert that power and less heat. Much like your PSU.

If the unit feels overly hot then it may not be venting teh heat as well as some other might. But its still adding to the overall room temp weather it well ventalated or not.

Ok, so does the amount of devices plugged into the UPS increase the amount of heat generated? Like right now I have my KVM switch, telephone, monitors and all that plugged into the UPS'es. Would removing them and having them plugged into a regular power bar cause the UPS to work less and thus generate less heat?

I have 2 APC 1500LCD UPS in my home. On one I have my computer and 28"LCD monitor plugged in. The computer is a quad Core oc'ed to 3.2GHz, 4 HD... the works really. I also have my phone plugged into that.

Anyhow my point is that it runs very cool or at the worst, on hot days... it might get a "bit" warm if you touch the back. I never hear it.. no buzzing, like my older model.

When I press the LCD to see what the current draw is, with my computer on and my LCD on of course.... the draw is actually very low. If my comptuer on the other hand is pounding away at video encoding, it obviously uses more but again never noted it ever getting hot.

Yes the more you have plugged in the more power is being drawn threw it causing more heat.
