Sallie Mae was charging me 8.75% on my private student loan! Terrible loan sharking! Well compared to my federal consolidation rate of 4.875% anyway. :p

interesting... too bad all my federal loans are already consolidated to nelnet. My private loans aren't yet though.... I should see if they can beat my citibank rate.

Upromise used to be great, when they offered cash back on purchases at Staples, and I used to get earn about $2-5/month on grocery store purchases (in addition to the 5% on my cash back credit card).

Lately (the past year or so), Upromise seriously scaled back on their cash back offers, removing Staples, among other things. Now I don't think I earn $1/mo from my grocery store purchases.

Still, free money is free money, so I would consider signing up if you haven't already. Just make sure to register all your grocery cards, as well as all your credit cards.

Here's a list of some of the items that earn cash back.link

Case in point: from 11/02 to 6/04, when I was a poor college student (as opposed to being a poor working adult now :p), I earned ~ $55 in my Upromise account. In the two years since, I have earned a cool $1.48.

Edit #2: Of the $56 that I've earned lifetime, $53 came from purchases at Staples and Circuit City.

They used to link some utility companies, and my parents signed on to my account, earning me about $3/month for awhile. Then, they yanked it, and I can't earn squat lately, even from grocery purchases since it's linked to certain items (and we stopped drinking so much Diet Coke!).

Oh, well, it's nice when it works, but it doesn't work often for me.
