I have a question about the tick marks used for certain words i.e. resume. The tick goes above the e...
How do I do that in Word. What is it called?

misspell the word, then select the one with accent marks in the spell checker. Or, open charmap and find it in there. Or, on a mac, type option+e, x where x is the vowel you want the accent mark over.

Just spell it "rezoomay" and tell them you're an expert on phonetics.

have you tried using the Alt GR button?
