Shah of Iran collapsed because his government ran out of money. He spent all the money on a military ready to take on the soviets. A tiny country like Iran ready to take on the Soviets.. what a nice dream.

current regime of Iran is suffering. They have no money. Ahmadinejad bankrupted the government.
It's the same thing all over again.
If the price of oil drops to $40/barrel again their regime is gone.

WARNING: EXTREMELY GRAPHIC

The videos of the girls getting stoned alive and hung for "adultery" are far more horrifying and graphic than that, yet for some reason the far left (notice I said far left, not democrats) tend to support Immadinnerjacket because of his anti-Israeli rhetoric.

videos of girls getting stoned alive and hung for adultery?

Girls getting stone alive and hung for adultery do not happen inside Iran.
Maybe some camel farm on the outskirts of Iran where the population is less than 10,000.

You really need to do some research. The search engines are there.

I disagree, stoning videos are pretty far down the ladder in terms of graphic violence. Definitely a lot less blood.

Wait...what do the Iranian elections and civil unrest have to do with stoning videos?

Are you stoned right now?

Hayabusa Rider's First Law of Government:
"The main function of any government is to keep itself in power. That governments are occasionally benign does not make them exceptions"

Right up there with:

"Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

No, that is what happens when the masses understand that they have been cheated by their government. The people have had enough and are standing up to this bull shit.
There is going to be a lot of pain before it gets better. Too bad most citizens of the USA don't have this kind of backbone. If they did, the Bush / Cheney show would have been shut down sooner.

I'm no advocate of civil war, but OTOH, criminals need to be called on their deeds.

why is this such a big deal?......aren't there more important things going on in the world or in our own country that can and should be addressed?

Well for what its worthy, the powers that be seem top be zeroing in on Rafsnajani as the hidden hand behind the demonstration, arresting 4 of his family.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200...xrA2lyYW5yYWlzZXNkZQ--

For those unfamiliar with Rafsanjani, he has been a powerful moderate in Iranian politics ever since 1979. Very wealthy and many say very corrupt. Now aged at 75 years old, he is too old to vie for power, but still has control of powerful factions that could remove even the head Ayatollah. Its no secret that Rafsnajani and Achmadinejad have little use for each other.

So its not just lowly and powerless demonstrators the existing Iranian power structure has to deal with, its a puzzle wrapped in an enigma. Any external country that tries outside manipulation is almost bound to have their efforts backfire if they don't understand who in Iran is playing what game, and there are no copies of the game plan to be had.
