I've been ranting about this for 10 years, online and to family and friends, often with a usecase starting in "Cambridge Analytica". Your personal data is not "free". It is free as in "freedom" -but hey screw it, it is only our freedom democracy and right to privacy at stake here.
"micro-targeting" -> "manipulating democracy at the lowest level".
They can only do this cause we have readily and willingly handed over our BIG DATA to megacorps.
Now it may well serve to tip the scale in the US presidential election.
Hope you're happy with yourself. :).

I really wish someone asked Clinton and Trump what their stance on the surveillance state exposed by Snowden is. I've got the feeling neither candidate is itching to roll that back any, and given the impact of IT security in this election I'm betting they will use that as an excuse to expand it.

You know, I wouldnt mind intelligence agencies having our data, I am pretty sure that works for our benefit in the long run, however, google, facebook, apple, microsoft(hello win10 telemetry) and even down to netflix and how you choose to wield your credit card, all that information is readily available to the big corps, they know you better than you know yourself. You could say it is pretty innocent if all they did was to ram a commercial for toothpaste you our behinds.. but it is so much more than that.

I absolutely mind intelligence agencies having our "data", it's a gross overreach of governmental powers. Advocating for a surveillance state is naive and disgusting imo.

History teaches us that we should be very worried about intelligence agencies having access to and information about every aspect of our lives. The private corps are a big concern as well. It's a shame people are so willing to give up their privacy at the drop of a hat. They either don't understand the potential problems or they don't care.
