Upgradingto win2k pro from win98 problems!!!!

I've done many upgrades on many computers but I'm stumped on this one. I was simply trying to do an upgrade on this Dell machine and the win2k upgrade shows that it's copying files, installing, etc, then reboots and repeats the exact same thing! Then it reboots again.....it's stuck in this loop! Any ideas on how to get the upgrade to complete? I can't go back to win98 either. I don't want to do a clean install(yet) cuz she has files on there that she needs to retrieve. Thanks in advance!!!!

Is there insufficient memory or a hardware incompatibility problem? If the win98 system files haven't been overwritten you can restore the win98 boot by booting with a DOS floppy and running "sys C:" - then you can delete the w2k files and directories. If that doesn't work, before reformating you can slave the drive in your machine and retrieve the data.
