At the end of this year my dad is going to let me upgrade my computer. Here's what I have in my current system:

Celeron 400
440LX Mobo
128MB PC100 SDRAM
6.8GB ATA66 HD
8.4GB ATA33 HD
ISA 56K Modem
ISA SB AWE64
10/100 NIC
Voodoo3 3000
48X CDROM
8X4X32 CDRW
Floppy

What should I upgrade? I was thinking about:

Duron 700 @ 1GHZ
MSI K7T PRO 2
SB Live!
GF2 MX

What do you think?

TIA, Micron

If you got the money, along with Nate's suggestions, I would recommend a little more memory. Not necessary, but it definitely would not hurt.

Get yourself a DVD - enjoy life - especially if you get that Live card recommended previously.

A faster HD.
A 75 GXP would be a good choice, you probabaly know best how big a HD you need.

I promise you that your whole system will be TWICE as fast, if not more if you get a new harddrive. I'm not totally sure what's the latest and best as I've been out of the biz for a little while, but i do know that I'm enjoying my IBM 75GXP 45 gig'er VERY much, it's really great. I'd say:

more/faster HD space
extra ram stick, always nice :) but put it low on the priority list, 128 is prolly still fine. I'm finding my 320 Mb very nice tho :p
DVD drive. depends on whether you wanna watch DVD movies (as I do, rocks with my 5.1 speakers), but if not I don't really see a point to it. even the fastest DVD drives don't read Cd's much more fast than 40x anyway.

also....please try looking into some faster internet if you can :) I'm on DSL now, and it REALLY is so sweet not having to dial anything, just always being on, and on FAST. check if you can get DSL, Cable or even just ISDN nearby.
