upgrading

I'm getting tired of the performance of my current system and I'm ready to upgrade, but would i be better off waiting for 65nm? The main reason im trying to wait is because for the first time i plan on spending up to $1500 on my setup and i want it to last a good 3 years. The only components i plan on keeping from my current setup are the monitor, hard drive, and speakers. Is it feasible that i will be able to get the most current cpu, mobo, video card, ram, and sound card along with decent psu and case for $1500. Most of my performace requirements are for gaming, so im not sure i will go dual core or not, but will amd be offering 65nm next summer, or should i just splurge and go all out right now?

Depending on how hardcore you wish to game, you could maybe use your 6800 for now in a s939 AGP system, or in that ULi mobo that has AGP/PCI-e.

Waiting doesn't make much sense to me, since socket types, etc., are always changing.

You can buy now if you want. Dual core does nothing for gaming. For multitasking, they work fine. But if gaming is your main use, just get a single core socket 939. Asrock has a uli 1695 board out now (for agp or pci-e), but more brands should appear in coming weeks.
