Upgrading XP Home to XP Pro

I want the update a version of XP to XP professional. The only problem is that the time limit has run out on the XP home copy. No point in registering if im going to install pro in it, I just want to do it without re-formatting again.

I was thinking of starting up in safe mode and running the cd from there...or maybe boot from dos using the pro CD and upgrading from there.
Any Ideas??

hmm...well it saids that I can Upgrade XP home to pro but if I haven't registered home edition does it mean its the evaluation version? It is the full version of XP Home.

I see, then you are just running the preactivation period on an XP Home, not an evaluation copy. Just activate the Home copy and upgrade it from there if it wont let you in. Or you can reinstall it for another preactivation period, but then you lose your data. I dont think it will allow you to even go into safe mode once the preactivation period ends.

I upgraded a brand new install of XP home to XP pro corporate on a laptop with no problems , you may have to activate your home install if you can't get it to boot . Cheers

Seems like you should be OK if you just boot from the XP pro CD.

(If you already tried that, I am curious what happened.......)
